It started with a dream to feed.
In 2018 on Christmas day, my boyfriend and I wound up with a bunch of holiday leftovers. Instead of throwing it all away, we decided to hand the food out to the homeless in OKC. I had never really fed the homeless before, and I truly thought it would be difficult to find people to take all the leftover food; however, within just 5 minutes, all the leftovers were gone and so many people were still in need of a decent meal. This left me shocked and heartbroken.
After this realization of just how much of a need there is within the homeless community, I had an intense desire to do something about it. So, I started a GoFundMe page to raise $200 to feed the homeless that New Years Eve. I was afraid people would think I was crazy and believed there was no way I could raise that much money – boy, was I wrong! People ended up donating over $1000, I was on the news that following Sunday, and the next thing I know, I’m filling out a 501c3 application to make this into a legit nonprofit.
It all happened so fast, and Feed it Forward OKC has grown so much since then. It’s the support of the community that has truly allowed us to feed so many people in such a short amount of time, and I’m excited to see where the future takes Feed it Forward OKC.
